Volunteer Hours Log

Skate Canada is a very successful national organization and one of the reasons for this is the involvement of thousands of volunteers that help to keep things running. Some individuals have been volunteering for more than 50 years!

As a non-profit organization, Cheam Skating Club relies heavily on the commitment and dedication of its volunteers: the CSC board and our skaters' families. The volunteer work is essential to the quality and success of our programming, and to your child's experience here. Our volunteer program provides our members with a great opportunity to learn about the sport of figure skating, how the Club runs, meet other Club members, watch our amazing skaters in action, and make a difference in your community.

Cheam Skating Club is hosting a variety of fun events this season, so jump in and join us! No experience necessary!

We invite you to review the following information and please do not hesitate to contact our office with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

How it Works

Cheam Skating Club’s volunteer program is in effect from September to August, providing ample time and a variety of opportunities to lend a hand.

1) All members are required to submit the online VOLUNTEER FORM to complete their registration.

2) Skaters registered in STARSKATE & COMPETITIVE are required to submit a VOLUNTEER BOND when registering at any time during the Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer sessions (September 2025-August 2026). On the VOLUNTEER FORM, members are to indicate their choice of two options*:

1. Volunteer DEPOSIT: Those who choose the Volunteer Deposit option must submit payment for the amount specified in the chart below, based on the skater’s designation. The specified hours of volunteering for the Club must be completed and documented by August 31, 2026, otherwise the Volunteer Deposit will be cashed. Payment for the volunteer bond may be a post-dated cheque (for August 31, 2026) or by cash, and is due within 7 days of session start. OR

2. Volunteer DONATION: Those who choose the Volunteer Donation/Opt-out option must submit payment for the specified amount to be paid at the time of registration. This payment will be charged immediately and the family is not required to perform a minimum number of volunteer hours.

*There is no partial option for hours or payment amount. Families must choose one of two options: fulfilling the specified number of volunteer hours OR making the specified full payment based on designation. Families of PreCanSkate, CanSkate, PowerSkate, and Junior Academy skaters are encouraged to contribute TWO HOURS of volunteer time during the skating year (September 2025 to August 2026). No volunteer bond is required.

Families of StarSkate and Competitive skaters are asked to contribute a minimum number of hours PER FAMILY of volunteer time during each skating year (September 2025 to August 2026) OR provide the required fee per family.

Important Notes

1) The number of hours is per immediate family (not per skater) and is based on the highest skater designation in the family

2) Board Members will get full credits for their volunteer hours

3) Volunteer requirements must be met in full (partial hours will not be accepted nor deposits pro-rated)

4) Skaters' volunteer time (i.e. program assistant, participation in ice show, etc.) cannot be applied towards the volunteer time requirement

5) Volunteer hours are encouraged to be split between Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer sessions to ensure we have enough volunteers to operate Club functions throughout the year.

6) Volunteer hours cannot be carried over into the subsequent year(s).

7) The volunteer hours requirement will be prorated for midyear promotions and for those registering in programs after September 2025. Please be sure to contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

2025/2026 Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to volunteer and no experience is necessary!

Notification for opportunities will be sent out by email and posted on the rink bulletin board when volunteers are needed. Tasks are assigned on a first come, first serve basis and managed by the Club's Volunteer Coordinator. If a coach suggests a job, please discuss it with the Volunteer Coordinator before taking on the task in order to receive credit for your time.

It is the responsibility of families to ensure they provide a valid email address and fulfill the minimum hours’ requirement if they would like their deposit cheque returned. Completed tasks/hours must be recorded on an ongoing basis in a Volunteer Hours Log spreadsheet, as per Club policy.
